Garden Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is looking for a Garden Coordinator to oversee gardening operations. This position will leverage innovative gardening techniques to offer education, engagement, and programming opportunities with the goal of promoting viable backyard and community-scale gardening strategies to mitigate regional food insecurity. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining aesthetics and landscaping of garden boxes at MOFC, as well as planning and supporting the long-term development and financial sustainability of the gardens at MOFC.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strengthen connection between Gardens and Farm with emphasis on education, technology, and sustainability
  • Identify and implement opportunities and projects that enhance the impact and financial sustainability of the Gardens
  • Oversee daily operations of Grove City gardens, ensuring proper aesthetics and efficiency
  • Oversee WODA garden design and initial implementation annually, and provide support when necessary to Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop Farm Technicians in upkeep
  • Work collaboratively with education initiatives, including field trips, tours, and other onsite educational programming
  • Maintain data and records to evaluate effectiveness of garden projects, programs, and initiatives
  • Coordinate and train volunteers in garden tasks, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, weeding, cultivating, and maintaining the gardens
  • Operate hand-tools and innovative growing equipment
  • Assist in the installation, operation, and maintenance of farm infrastructure
  • Complete special projects and planning in partnership with Farm Director
  • Solicit feedback and implement best practices using continuous improvement processes
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED required, college degree in Horticulture, Landscape Design, or Sustainability strongly preferred. Candidate must have a valid Driver's License.

Experience: Experience in managing/coordinating gardens and working with stakeholders/volunteers is required. Experience with design software such as CAD and Photoshop is highly preferred. Proven experience educating learners of all ages and ability to demonstrate through multiple channels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Previous farming and growing experience is necessary, with the Mid-Ohio Farm team to provide all necessary training related to their unique growing systems.

Skills/Competencies: Committed to the organizational mission of ending hunger. Knowledge and expertise in best gardening/growing practices is essential. Team-oriented and proven background in successful project implementation through collaboration. Comfortable presenting one-on-one as well as to a large audience. Possess a strong desire to teach and educate MOFC customers, staff, and volunteers within MOFC footprint on innovative gardening and growing techniques.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position will be a blend of urban farm setting and office. Events will require a person to work outside in all weather conditions performing manual labor. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting will be required. Occasional travel may be required.
