Reporting Relationship: Reports to Perishable Foods Manager

SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for receiving and storage of perishable foods, in addition to assisting the Perishable Foods Manager with Mid-Ohio Foodbank (MOF) produce inventory procedures. This position is also responsible for overseeing and assisting with the picking, packing and staging of perishable food orders (produce, dairy, and freezer) for our partner agencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Provides guidance to the Perishable Foods Team regarding operational procedures and practices.
• Performs daily inventory counts for produce and assists the manager with produce inventory management.
• Perform a variety of general duties including picking/packing, loading/unloading and proper storage and distribution of perishable food products (frozen, refrigerated and fresh foods) to our partner agencies.
• Loads orders onto both MOF and contract carrier trucks for delivery to partner agencies. Responsible for completion of paperwork, shrink wrapping, and labeling pallets for delivery.
• Receive perishable food products including quality inspections, unloading trucks, receiving paperwork, labeling, product cycling and storage.
• Proper handling and storage of all donated retail perishable products.
• Ensure that first in first out (FIFO) or first expired first out (FEFO) methodology is used in accordance with quality standards.
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of food distribution and warehouse areas.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies.
• Partners with the Freezer Inventory Specialist with inventory functions (replenishment, cycle counts, receiving frozen and refrigerated products).
• Assists in special projects and performs other duties at the request of the Perishable Foods Manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED Required. Food Safety Certification (provided by Mid-Ohio Foodbank).

Experience: Minimum of one year of warehouse experience including use of forklift (propane and electric), electric pallet jacks/riders (4ft and 8ft) is required. Previous experience using a cherry picker is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of general warehouse machinery and operations. Knowledge of quality control practices and procedures.

Skills/Competencies: Must have good customer skills and mathematical skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: Warehouse environment. Safety sensitive position due to regular interaction with heavy machinery. Must be able to: perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift 30 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally). Daily walking, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling (300 lbs. with use of manual pallet jack.). Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching. Must work in sub-freezing temperatures for extended periods of time. Some night and weekend work required.
