JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts outreach to support benefit enrollment & referral services to income eligible central and eastern Ohio residents with a specific focus on SNAP/food stamp benefits. Other benefits include, but are not limited to, Medicaid, Ohio Works First, Women Infants and Children and Home Energy Assistance Program.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Travels to and within service area to proactively reach out to residents who may be eligible for SNAP (food stamp) benefits.
- Facilitates education sessions and distributes materials about SNAP benefits, eligibility, and the application process. Interviews prospective applicants to determine likelihood of eligibility.
- Using Benefit Bank software, assists eligible people in completing and submitting benefit applications.
- Assure client personal information collected & reviewed through the Outreach process is handled in accordance with privacy statements and policies.
- Develops and maintains relationships with member agencies and other organizations (e.g., ODJFS, etc.) that may be helpful in identifying prospective clients or may provide the opportunity and venue to do outreach. Maintains regular communication with prospective applicants during the application process.
- Meets monthly with Food Assistance Outreach Manager to provide and receive updates regarding outreach activities.
- Performs general office work, such as filing, reviewing, planning as needed as part of outreach efforts.
- Meets regularly with Food Assistance Outreach team to discuss program status, goals, methods, experience.
- Works in collaboration with other Mid-Ohio Food Collective departments to ensure strong working relationships.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in special projects as requested.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree in related field required. Must have a valid Driver's License.
Experience: At least three years of social service/human services experience or work in a non-profit environment. Knowledge of Ohio Department of Job & Family Services procedures, processes, and benefits available. Awareness of the Ohio Benefit Bank service. Strong communication skills and experience with conflict resolution. Experience using of web-based/online forms. Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Skills/Competencies: Ability to interact with challenging personalities. Ability to listen, empathize, and strategize while maintaining healthy boundaries. Candidates must represent Mid-Ohio Food Collective with professionalism when interacting with clients, volunteers, community members and Foodbank staff.
JOB CONDITIONS:
Working Conditions: Will perform duties from field; frequent travel within assigned service area. Reliable transportation is required. Mid-Ohio Food Collective is a drug-free workplace.
