Mid-Ohio Foodbank (MOF) works each day to end hunger one nourishing meal at a time and to co-create a sustainable community where everyone thrives. Understanding that hunger is a community challenge that requires a community solution, we are steadfast in our pledge to make sure that no one goes hungry and that hungry families can count on another meal.

For 40 years, Mid-Ohio Foodbank has served the needs of people across central and eastern Ohio. In 1980, our first year, we distributed just 205,200 pounds of food. Today, the organization handles more than 68 million pounds annually. Through partnerships with more than 680 member agencies, we provide more than 140,000 meals every day.

We are committed to creating food access points on all levels. We do this through innovative ways that serve the whole person, understanding that hunger does not exist in isolation. Our goal is to end hunger.

Mid-Ohio Foodbank is a part of a larger Collective, with additional programming that includes:

  • Mid-Ohio Farmacy focusing on strategies and outcomes that help our neighbors gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to access and prepare healthier foods, Mid-Ohio Farmacy partners with local healthcare providers that can write prescriptions for individuals who are food insecure.
  • Mid-Ohio Farms which transforms vacant and underutilized sites in under-served neighborhoods into productive, sustainable, urban farms providing low-income, food-insecure residents increased access to fresh, local produce, and encourages civic engagement.
  • Mid-Ohio Kitchen offers low-cost meals with a varied payment structure (including volunteering), and meals for local after-school programs.
  • Mid-Ohio Markets are community focused food distribution sites with wrap-around services that are specific to the needs of that specific community..

About the Position

Our bold vision of a hunger free and healthier community requires an innovative leader and team. We are looking for a leader to build, foster, and guide our team in creative and collaborative ways to mobilize and inspire others toward fighting poverty and ending hunger.

Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer position is a member of the organization's executive team and will also will set Mid-Ohio Foodbank's financial policy and direction while also being an active participant of the organization's overall strategy.  The Chief Financial Officer will lead all financial administration, business financial planning, and budgeting assuring objectives are well understood and executed by the team.

The Chief Financial Officer will:

  • be passionate about the MOF mission and committed to the strategic vision of the organization;
  • be creative, innovative, and collaborative in expanding and developing platforms, programs and services for MOF;
  • be an ambitious and dynamic leader, partnering with the President/CEO to build and nurture relationships and align like-minded organizational partners;
  • have a successful history of utilizing technology to drive outcomes; and
  • demonstrate effective strategic skills to lead and execute large-scale initiatives.

 

Key Job Functions

  • Develops, implements, and manages a financial reporting system that maintains internal operating controls.  Prepares and provides timely and accurate financial reporting for management and Board of Directors.  Prepares year-end financials for audit report and collaborates with auditors on completion of IRS 990 filings.
  • Directs annual budget process, approves departmental budgets, and presents annual budget to Board for approval.  Analyzes actual revenue and expenses to budget and recommends actions to address variances.
  • Interacts with other managers to provide consultative support for planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports and recommendations.
  • Serves as plan administrator for retirement plan and aid in the evaluation of annual group health renewals.
  • Assesses potential risk factors and takes appropriate action to mitigate, including maintaining appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with third parties, including bankers, insurance companies, retirement plan providers, investment managers, auditors, payroll providers, and attorneys.
  • Coordinates activities and reporting for external reporting, recognition and certification (i.e. BBB Charitable Standards, OANO Standards for Excellence, annual Feeding America NAR reporting, biannual FA audit, etc.).
  • Works with organizational leaders to review and negotiate vendor contracts, budget construction and other improvement projects, and oversee capital projects or purchases.
  • Provides fiscal/risk evaluation of strategic business opportunities and analyzes the business operations, appropriateness and reliability of proposed business opportunity.
  • Provides continuous forecasting and analysis of programs and budgets and identify need for interventions or changes.
  • Use predictive analytics, modeling and pro-forma to support new or innovative strategy development and decision making.
  • Directs employees within their business unit, including performance management, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, and hiring and placement.  Participates in succession management and related projects as necessary.  
  • Leads special projects at the request of the President and CEO.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with Mid-Ohio Foodbank team members and Board of Directors.

Position Competencies, Skills, and Qualifications

Education and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting required. MBA preferred. Certified Public Accountant license strongly preferred.

Experience: Minimum of ten years of experience as CFO or Controller including experience with financial planning and reporting, annual audits, and cash management.  Supervisory experience required.  Prior experience as an active member of leadership team that collaborates with Board of Directors and Sub-Committees. Demonstrated knowledge of various integrated inventory management and accounting systems, payroll, and budgeting software and GAAP.

Skills/Competencies:     

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal written, analytical and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact with Board members.
