JOB TITLE: Community Outreach Coordinator
STATUS: Temporary, Full Time, Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director, Prepared Foods
DIRECT REPORTS: None
 

SUMMARY: Conducts community outreach in and around the south side communities of Columbus. Raises awareness within assigned area, educating community members and community organizations about services provided through Mid-Ohio Foodbank in combination with Reeb Avenue Center. Develop productive relationships with community based organizations, schedule and lead events, create outreach and referral strategies and monitor utilization of services within the local community.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Travels within the south side to promote South Side Roots and Reeb Avenue Center to residents who may be eligible for Reeb partner services.
• Facilitates education sessions and distributes materials about services including but not limited to customer card program, community meals, summer feeding, as well as Reeb partner opportunities.
• Develops and participates in community events.
• Develops and maintains relationships with community partners, organizations and associations.
• Schedules meetings and delivers presentations to community organizations and leaders.
• Responsible for training and development of volunteers, program participants and others providing services to clients and community members on behalf of South Side Roots.
• Ensure all individuals visiting South Side Roots receive excellent customer service and experiences.
• Plan weekly community meal and associated programs.
• Maintain strategies to increase participation of community members at events including but not limited to community meals.
• Identify methods for and implement tracking of service impact and participation, and community engagement.
• Refers individuals for services through Reeb Avenue Center partners.
• Performs general office work, such as filing, reviewing, planning as needed as part of outreach efforts.
• Participate in special projects as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field preferred.

Experience:  At least two years of social service/human services experience or work in a non-profit environment. Previous community event coordination experience preferred. Experience presenting to large groups and engaging prospects preferred. Knowledge of local community organizations and existing community partnerships preferred. Experience working with or within non-profit organizations preferred. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skills/Competencies:  Ability to interact with difficult personalities (or persons made difficult by their desperate situations) and with persons from impoverished circumstances. Ability to listen, empathizes, and strategize while maintaining healthy boundaries. Must be able to represent Mid Ohio Food Bank with professionalism when interacting with member agencies and partners.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions:  Will perform duties from field; frequent travel within assigned service area. Reliable transportation is required.
