JOB TITLE: Farm Education Intern

REPORTS TO: Sr. Project Manager

STATUS: Internship

SUMMARY: Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), through Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop, is building the farm of the future to transform the urban agriculture community in Ohio by creating a unique farming platform to include innovative techniques and methods to provide high yield and efficiency. The initial phase of this project was completed in 2020 with land secured and working demonstrations in place. The second phase will launch in spring 2021 and will continue throughout the beginning of 2022. Phase 2 will include the construction of multiple farm buildings that will expand the capabilities and reach of Mid-Ohio Farm requiring expertise and leadership from the Farm Manager.


Mid-Ohio Farm will serve as a living lab around the future of tech-enabled farming for students of all ages, urban and rural farmers, entrepreneurs, and researchers. To maximize yield, workforce training, and economic development opportunities, the farm will include cutting-edge technology including sensors, robotics, and open data visualization. This farm will serve as a hub across the Food Collective's 20-county service area and scale agricultural efficiency best practices across the state. This effort builds on existing smart farm technology while simultaneously housing prototypes and new innovations. Partnerships with schools and community organizations across the region will educate the next generation and reskill community members on how to farm using the latest technology so they are prepared for a career in a wide range of agricultural and tech related fields.


The Farm Education Intern will assist in the execution and planning of the vision to make the farm an education hub to include curriculum for schools of all levels, field trips and virtual classes. Educational opportunities will also be available to community members of all ages and will make Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop the EduFarm of the Future. In partnership with the Farm Education Coordinator and Senior Project Manager, the Education Intern will assist in development of a project plan and key stakeholders such as school districts, colleges and community partners.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

Coordination of mentorships and field trips with local organization throughout the summer

Preparation of a project plan for immediate and long-term success

Coordination with school districts and community partners

Identify new relationships to expand programmatic potential

Engaging students and instructors

Other duties as assigned


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED required, college degree in Education or Business
preferred. Candidate must have a valid Driver's License. Knowledge on vegetable and horticultural concepts preferred.


Experience: Experience in program/project management is required. Gardening or farm experience is preferred to be able to speak from first-hand knowledge, teaching, however, training will be provided. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.


Skills/Competencies: Committed to the organizational mission of ending hunger. Knowledge and expertise in
educational programming for various age and competency levels. Strong project management and organizational skills are essential. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills are required. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to work cross-functionally, cross-culturally and build relationships that collaborate effectively with volunteers, partner agencies, community leaders, stakeholders. An eagerness to test innovations and build upon successes and failures will be necessary.


JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: This position will be a blend of an urban farm setting and in an office. Events will require a person to work outside in all weather conditions performing manual labor. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting may be required.
