Farm Education Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is looking for a Farm Education Coordinator to execute the development and implementation of the vision to make the farm a learning hub. In partnership with the Farm Director and the Senior Project Manager, the Farm Education Coordinator will establish a project plan, develop curriculum, and determine key stakeholders such as school districts, colleges, and community partners.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and delivers education programs related to urban agriculture and horticultural practices on and off site, including field trips and events.
  • Works with volunteers and support organizations to expand programming and resources for MOFC Farm.
  • Guides the development of relevant and meaningful program content and materials within a strategic framework.
  • Develops promotional and relationship-building strategies targeted at schools and related organizations.
  • Identifies methods for and implements tracking of program impact and participation.
  • Provides hands-on operational support for farm locations as needed to ensure staff and programming are successful.
  • Identifies strategies to cultivate community awareness that builds relationships and engagement with MOFC.
  • Leverages existing community partnerships and builds strategic partnerships in the MOFC adjacent neighborhoods and other geographic areas as identified.
  • Delivers presentations and outreach activities to community organizations.
  • Facilitates onsite tours, guest speakers, and events at the Community Building at Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop.
  • Develops a long-range vision and comprehensive community outreach plan aligned with the goals and objectives of a community assessment/evaluation built upon a thorough assessment of current programs, current and potential audiences, potential strategic partnerships, and funding opportunities.
  • Cultivates strategic partnerships with organizations and individuals, including a diverse population of community leaders, and volunteers, through community outreach activities.
  • Engages in outreach with regional botanical, horticultural, and environmental organizations in support of services and educational programs related to our mission.
  • Tracks expenses, participation, statistics, and trends related to all programming as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED required, college degree in Education or Business preferred. Candidate must have a valid Driver's License.

Experience: Experience in coordinating events, working with students and program/project management is required. Educational experience including creating lesson plans and curriculum is highly preferred. Sales and/or customer service experience is preferred, but not required. Gardening or farming experience is preferred to be able to speak from first-hand knowledge when teaching.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and expertise in educational programming for various ages and competency levels. Knowledge on vegetable and horticultural concepts preferred. Strong project management and organizational skills are essential. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills are required. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to work cross-functionally, cross-culturally and build relationships that collaborate effectively with volunteers, partner agencies, community leaders, stakeholders. An eagerness to test innovations and build upon successes and failures will be necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.


JOB CONDITIONS:

This position will be a blend of an urban farm setting and an office environment. Events will require a person to work outside in all weather conditions performing manual labor.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting may be required.
