JOB TITLE: First Impressions/food service handler

STATUS: Non-Exempt, Temporary, Part-time (20 hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Assistant Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: No

SUMMARY:  This is first impressions/general service food handling position. This position focuses on providing outstanding service to customers including but not limited serving at the offsite Charter School, running a register, and serving meals at South Side Roots. This person ensures that items meet the required stock levels and presentation standards; and that cleanliness and safety standards are met or exceeded. Food Service Workers must 18 years of age or older.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Works with the kitchen to ensure and maintain appropriate functioning of entire location operations.
  • Ensure that each guest receives outstanding guest service by providing a guest friendly environment, including greeting and acknowledging every guest, maintaining outstanding standards, and all other components of guest service.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly and professionally while handling complaints and unpleasant customers.
  • Works with Kids Cafe Chef to prepare and serve our customers through delivering food to the appropriate customer while adhering to policies and procedures including, but not limited to, portion control, quality control, and sanitation and food handling standards.
  • Operates, maintains and sanitizing various small equipment appropriate to food services (cash registers, knives, hot food holders, coolers, coffee/tea brewer, etc.)
  • Maintain an awareness and have the ability to provide general information of all product information
  • Maintain an awareness of and have the ability to adhere to all established MOF policies and procedures including cash handling, personal hygiene, food safety, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED Required. Preferred Food Safety Certification or willingness to follow food safety guidelines and regulations required by the USDA and the State of Ohio.

Experience:  Preferred 6-months customer service environment experience and cash handling experience or open to gaining knowledge and experience. Preferred 6-months sanitation knowledge and food handling experience or open to gaining knowledge and experience.

Skills/Competencies:  Must have excellent customer skills, basic mathematical skills, good communication, organizational and time management skills. Able to manage stressful and difficult situations and people in a professional manner. Able to manage stressful and difficult situations and people in a professional manner. Good verbal communication skills with the ability to speak, write and comprehend English. Reliable transportation to and from work. Ability to work independently and work as a team member. Ability to follow directions verbally or written. Must have the ability to multi-task while paying attention to detail. Reliability is revealed through work ethic and work performance in a fast-paced and high volume environment.

 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid (non-weather) and extreme cold or heat (non-weather). The noise level is usually moderate, but could increase to high. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk/hear and taste. Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel or crouch. These abilities must be able to be performed up to eight hours a day varying in-between the hours of 7am-8pm. Some night and weekend work may be required.
