Food Assistance Outreach Manager

SUMMARY:  Responsible for managing and administering benefit enrollment & referral services to income eligible central and eastern Ohio residents with a specific focus on SNAP/food stamp benefits. Other benefits include, but are not limited to, Medicaid, Ohio Works First, Women Infants and Children and Home Energy Assistance Program.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Manage USDA SNAP grant. Track program statistics; submit statistical & narrative reports; work with Vice President of Agency and Program Services to develop annual goals and program budget.
• Maintain ongoing communication and strong partnership with project funders and partner organizations.
• Lead Outreach team in achieving set program goals.
• Travel within Mid-Ohio Foodbank service area to proactively reach out to MOF partners and other organizations working with Ohio residents who may be eligible but not enrolled for SNAP/food stamp benefits. Coordinate benefit outreach and/or benefit referral activities with these partners.
• Facilitate education sessions and distribute materials about SNAP benefits, eligibility and the application process. Interviews prospective applicants to determine eligibility. Use Benefit Bank software to help income eligible Ohio residents complete applications for SNAP and other government benefits.
• Stay abreast of State and County level qualifications, requirements and processes for enrolling in government benefit programs with specific focus on SNAP/food stamp benefits.
• Assure client personal information collected & reviewed through the Outreach process is handled in accordance with privacy statements and policies.
• Work with direct reports to develop annual work plans with clear goals that align with MOF strategic initiatives. Conduct annual performance reviews based on those plans. Provide leadership, support and development opportunities to staff.

• Meet regularly with other members of Agency Programs & Services department to assure information about Outreach services is shared across all food distribution programs and information about food distribution programs is readily available to the Outreach team.
• Provide regular updates to VP, Agency Services regarding project activities.
• Participate in special projects as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree required. Must have a valid Driver's License.

Experience: Supervisory experience is required. Managing staff working from remote locations is preferred.  Must have at least three years of social service/human services experience or worked in a non-profit environment.  Strong communication skills and experience with conflict resolution is a must.  Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook is required. 

Skills/Competencies:  Ability to interact with challenging personalities.  Ability to listen, empathize, and strategize while maintaining healthy boundaries.  Candidates must represent Mid-Ohio Foodbank with professionalism when interacting with clients, volunteers, community members and Foodbank staff.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: Combination of office environment; direct service in community-based settings; direct service in correctional institutes. Frequent travel within MOF service area. Reliable transportation is required.
