Food Pantry Coordinator

SUMMARY:  Under the general supervision of the Agency Relations Manager, this position will assist in the launch and on-going coordination of Mid-Ohio Foodbanks on-site pantry program.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Develop, document and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and processes for community food pantry that define service population, hours of operation, food ordering practices, inventory rotation, food distribution model and process for completing and storing client paperwork.

  1. Open and manage day to day operations of community food pantry according to SOP. Pantry will be open some evening and weekend hours.
  2. Oversee AmeriCorps*VISTA project staff to develop seasonal garden plans and planting schedules for the on-site garden that compliment pantry operations and other Mid-Ohio Foodbank program initiatives.
  3. Train and manage Foodbank volunteers to staff the food pantry and garden projects.
  4. Work with Agency Relations Manager and other department staff to plan/implement programs and services that support the Foodbank’s mission, vision and strategic plan.
  5. Works with program staff to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and special projects related to the food pantry and garden.
  6. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies.
  7. Participates in special projects as requested

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent

Licenses/Designations:   None

Experience: Must have two years experience working/volunteering in a community based setting interacting directly with individuals, families and/or children in a customer service or education capacity. Two years experience working/volunteering in a food pantry is desired. Potential candidates must have experience training, managing and retaining volunteers to achieve set goals. Computer skills are necessary for maintaining pantry records and completing monthly/annual statistical reports.

Knowledge:  Knowledge of food pantry operations and community garden projects/initiatives.   Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook. 

Skills/Competencies:    Strong organization, communication and people skills are required. Individuals must understand the importance of collecting data related to pantry services for evaluation and reporting purposes. Candidates must represent Mid-Ohio Foodbank with professionalism when interacting with clients, volunteers, community members and Foodbank staff.

JOB CONDITIONS:

FLSA Status:  Non- Exempt

Working Conditions:  This job requires working some evening and weekend hours. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.  Frequent, walking, standing, lifting.  May occasionally work in outside conditions as it relates to gardening objectives.
