Job Title: Food and Industrial Safety Manager

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Status: Full time, Salary

Direct Reports: None

SUMMARY: Manages all safety initiatives and programs for Mid-Ohio Foodbank's (MOF) food distribution warehouse, transportation team and office to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Provides site safety leadership, ensures facility compliance with corporate safety standards, implements safety directives, improves safety performance, and ensures facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Develops, implements and manages food safety and physical safety programs that addresses applicable safety and industry practices including but not limited to, FDA, AIB, USDA, ergonomics, lift truck operation safety, CPR, fire safety, first aid, etc.
• Develop and provide training for food safety and quality requirements
• Develop and maintain documentation such as SOP’s, as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and prerequisite programs including implementation, monitoring, communication to appropriate parties and periodic review as they relate to any food safety concerns
• Conduct facility food safety audits as well as manage third party audits and inspections
• Monitor activities to ensure that all products coming in and out of the facility meet food safety and quality standards
• Periodically review food safety procedures and documentation to remain current with industry requirements
• Assemble and manage the Food Safety Team and ensure processes needed are established, implemented and maintained.
• Develops and maintains a safety manual and reinforces safety awareness, as well as coordinates Emergency Planning and Preparedness activities
• Responsible for incident/injury reporting, monitoring, record keeping, also investigating all safety incidents or injuries and proactively recommend and implement procedures to correct deficiencies
• Prepares required regulatory and management reports on a timely basis
• Monitor building security systems and processes including but not limited to alarm systems, building access and security
• Partners with Transportation Team on DOT requirements, testing, record keeping and compliance.
• Partners with Director of HR on Workers Compensation Claims and Transitional Work Programs
• Identifies, develops and implements safety inspection program for all transportation vehicles and warehouse equipment
• Obtains certification in forklift/warehouse equipment training and trains and re-certifies all warehouse and transportation team member as required
• Responsible for all OSHA reporting, monitoring, inspections and training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Operations/Logistics or related area preferred.

Licenses/Designations: Certified First Aid/CPR Trainer status preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years of Safety experience in a distribution environment (preferably food), including two years’ experience in OSHA safety/teaching/training capacity and working with the Ohio Workers Compensation process.

Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of: Ohio Workers Compensation process, Columbus Health Code Title V Food and Food Products, Chapter 209 Enforcement, Inspection and Safety, Chapter 259 Food Salvage (required after hire;) OSHA regulations, principles of management, budgeting

Skills/Competencies: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong verbal, non-verbal written, analytical and persuasive skills.
