SUMMARY: Coordinates grassroots database; messaging including newsletter and call-to-action alerts; regional advocacy outreach throughout service area, including onsite event management; works with others to integrate advocacy and public outreach messaging throughout organization, including social media and county agency partners; and, other areas as assigned in support of advocacy efforts.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Creates and maintains public official contact list at local level
- Creates and maintains local advocacy supporter database
- Manages county-based grassroots strategy through electronic communication, onsite events and local meetings
- Coordinates with MOFC staff on local advocacy print and electronic messaging, including media, social media and web-based as well as collateral material
- Develops recruitment, orientation and training tools for advocates to use in outreach efforts
- Monitors positions and voting records around hunger, poverty, health and economic equality by public policy decision-makers (and candidates)
- Provides background/research on public policy issues
- Coordinates w/peer community groups, including Chambers of Commerce, local non-profits and health care groups, on advocacy efforts
- Works within Marketing/Communications and Public Affairs team and across departments within organization to integrate grassroots into Hunger Action Month and other specific events as well as issue-based communications and events
- Ability to present publicly to groups and individuals
- Travel required, including occasional overnight, as well as attendance at evening and/or weekend events
- Other duties as assigned in support of the Department and Mid-Ohio Food Collective
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education and Certifications: Baccalaureate Degree or equivalent experience required.
Experience: One to three years of organizational and communication experience. Knowledge of government organizations, functions and processes. Non-profit grassroots experience preferred.
Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
JOB CONDITIONS:
Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required. May occasionally spend time supporting volunteers in other departments with varying working conditions.
