Job Description

SUMMARY: The Under the direction of the Dir. of Public Benefits and Customer Outreach, the Navigator will assist individuals, families, and small businesses with access to health care, educating them about Affordable Care Act health coverage options and enrolling them in health insurance benefits. This position is funded through a 36-month federal grant administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Educate individuals, families and small businesses about the Affordable Care Act and its components through resource fairs, educational clinics, presentations, and material distributions
• Assist them in enrolling in Medicaid (when applicable) or other health insurance benefits offered through the Marketplace
• Assist them with obtaining necessary paperwork and filling out forms.
• Perform follow up on individual's eligibility as necessary.
• Maintain confidentially and adhere to agreements and standards.
• Travel to multiple sites in MOFC service area.
• Inform customers of next steps and protocol to keep them informed throughout the process.
• Travels to and within service area to proactively reach out to residents who may be eligible for Health care but are not enrolled.
• Collect, maintain, and report accurate outreach and customer data in tracking tool.
• Performs general office work, such as filing, reviewing, planning and other assigned special projects as needed as part of outreach efforts.
• Develops and maintains relationships with member agencies and other organizations (i.e. ODJFS, etc.) that may be helpful in identifying prospective customers or may provide the opportunity and venue to do outreach.
• Meets regularly with Director and Benefits team to discuss program status, goals, methods, outreach activities, and experience.
• Works in collaboration with other Mid-Ohio Foodbank departments to ensure strong working relationships.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies.
• Attend all required trainings, educational programs, and staff meetings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: Must have a High School Diploma/GED and valid Driver's License.

Experience: At least three years of directly related experience in the Social Services field, plus experience assisting homeless, disabled or mentally ill populations. Experience providing intake and basic clientele assessments; provide direction and resources.

Skills/Competencies: Good mathematical, organizational, verbal and written communication, time management and coordination skills. Ability to interact with diverse personalities and populations. Ability to listen, empathize, and strategize while maintaining healthy boundaries. Candidates must represent Mid-Ohio Food Collective with professionalism when interacting with customers, volunteers, community members and Food Collective staff. Dual language a plus.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: Will perform duties from field; frequent travel within assigned service area. Reliable transportation is required. Applicants must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for employment.
