JOB SUMMARY:

Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is looking for a Lead Cook to support all food related programs at Reeb Avenue Center (South Side Roots Café & Market). This will include the food production of Café, children meals, and catering functions. The Lead Cook is also responsible for the overall culinary responsibilities in the absence of the Sous Chef/Executive Chef.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for opening the kitchen.
  • Cleans and sanitizes the kitchen.
  • Aids and assist other areas of the kitchen as needed.
  • Maintains the walk-in coolers for organization and freshness.
  • Notifies Chefs in advance of all expected shortages.
  • Labels all food products and adheres to proper rotation of food products.
  • Ensures that work station and equipment are clean and sanitary.
  • Adheres to state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains high sanitary, safety, and security standards.
  • Mentors the other prep line cooks.
  • Assists with other duties as instructed by Sous Chef/Executive Chef.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED required. Food Safety Certification (provided by Mid-Ohio Food Collective). Culinary Arts degree from an accredited program preferred.

Experience: 1-2 years kitchen lead experience in a high volume, complex foodservice operations. Experience in a high-touch customer service environment preferred. Non-profit experience is a plus.

Skills/Competencies: Must have good customer skills, mathematical skills, strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to use computerized food ordering and planning system and experience with Microsoft applications. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.


JOB CONDITIONS:

Kitchen environment. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and extreme cold or heat (non-weather). Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision. Daily standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching.
