Pantry Specialist for Mid-Ohio Foodbank

JOB TITLE: Pantry Specialist

STATUS: Full Time, Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Agency Services Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: Pantry Volunteers

SUMMARY: 

Under the general supervision of the Agency Services Manager, this position will be responsible for the overseeing day- to-day operations of the Kroger Community Food Pantry at Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Coordinate day-to-day operations of community food pantry according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Partner with Mid-Ohio Foodbank Volunteer Department to recruit pantry volunteers.
• Train and oversee Foodbank volunteers to fulfill day-to-day pantry duties, such as: stock shelves, answer phones and schedule pantry visits, sign-in pantry customers for service, order food, etc.
• Work with Agency Service Manager and other department staff to plan/implement programs and services that support the Foodbank's mission, vision and strategic direction.
• Provides support for Mid-Ohio Foodbank onsite community garden maintenance and program efforts.
• Work with program staff to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and special projects related to the food pantry and garden.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies.
• Participates in special projects as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma/GED

Experience: Must have two years of experience working/volunteering in a community based setting interacting directly with individuals, families and/or children in a customer service or education capacity. Two years of experience working/volunteering in a food pantry is desired. Potential candidates must have experience training, supervising and retaining volunteers to achieve set goals. Computer skills are necessary for maintaining pantry records and completing monthly/annual statistical reports.

Licenses/Designations: Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Knowledge: Knowledge of food pantry operations and community garden projects/initiatives.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Skills/Competencies: Strong organization, communication and people skills are required. Individuals must understand the importance of collecting data related to pantry services for evaluation and reporting purposes. Candidates must represent Mid-Ohio Foodbank with professionalism when interacting with clients, volunteers, community members and Foodbank staff.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions:  This job requires working some evening and weekend hours. Must be able to: perform moderate to heavy physical labor (must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.).  Daily walking, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling. Must work in various climate temperatures (coolers, warehouse, etc.) and outdoors as needed for gardening objectives.

Schedule:  This position works a flexible schedule that may include some evenings. Must able be able to work Saturday mornings and early afternoon.
