Public Relations Manager

JOB TITLE: Public Relations Manager
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs
DIRECT REPORTS: Social Media Coordinator
 

SUMMARY:  The Public Relations Manager serves as the "face and voice" of Mid-Ohio Foodbank with the general public and other key community stakeholders. This position focuses on proactive outreach to both traditional and digital media by developing and deploying proactive communications strategies to educate and mobilize external audiences to support the Foodbank's vision, mission and strategic priorities.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  •          Develops and implements proactive external communications plans informed by clients/stories in conjunction with Dept. VP and other Foodbank associates to ensure the organization,             its programs, and the hunger issues, research, and trends are promoted effectively.
  •          Develops and executes proactive media outreach plan and metrics, tracks coverage and manages/monitors media coverage.
  •          Creates, manages and updates current media contact information for outreach efforts.
  •          Writes, pitches, and places stories relevant to the Foodbank's work across the entire footprint and scrapbooks all media advisories and releases.
  •          Draft and manage speeches, online content, hard copy communications/outreach materials and edits organizational materials/newsletters/brochures/postings/etc.to maintain consistent,           singular Foodbank brand.
  •          Responsible for on-camera representation of the Foodbank including live TV, recorded spots and other video productions.
  •          Coordinates news bureau activities with corporate and organizational partners interested in promoting their engagement with the Foodbank.
  •          Establishes, maintains and strengthens relationships and connections with key media outlets located throughout the Foodbank's footprint, seeking opportunities for positive coverage.
  •          Maintains the Foodbank's image and identity, acting as the company's spokesperson to various stakeholder groups.
  •          Develops and implements a dedicated media strategy in collaboration with Advocacy efforts to plan for Hunger Action Month that includes editorial board meetings, LTE's and op-ed                   pieces.
  •          Directs and implements web-based and social media campaigns, promotions and messaging to expand awareness through branded website and social media networks.
  •          Monitors effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of communications and digital media efforts, and analyzes, reviews and reports on effectiveness to maximize results.
  •          Participates in training, activities and other learning opportunities to stay current on media changes, public relations trends, and research.
  •          Works with Dept. VP to create a cohesive online brand experience.
  •          Supports and integrates the Foodbank brand, including vision, mission and values and strategic direction in all communications efforts.
  •          Participates in special projects and provides tours of Foodbank operations.
  •          Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Education and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field required; Master's Degree preferred. APR Certification preferred. Must have a valid Driver's License.

Experience:  At least five years of experience in communications, public relations, digital marketing, social media and/or related marketing field. Experience in nonprofit a plus. In-depth knowledge and understanding of both traditional media and social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Digg, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Flipboard, etc.) and how they can be deployed in diverse outreach efforts; and knowledge of blogging ecosystem relevant to nonprofits. Experience building professional relationships with media outlet representatives.  Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews.

Skills/Competencies:  Strong written and verbal communications, project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to recommend, persuade and influence ways to facilitate communications with diverse audiences and to improve communications flow, execution and deliverables both internally and externally.  Must be able to represent the Foodbank with professionalism when interacting with Foodbank stakeholders - including clients, partner agencies, community corporate, civic and governmental partners, media, and staff.

Working Conditions:  Normal office environment. Travel is required. Must have reliable transportation.
