Volunteer Operations Lead

SUMMARY:
Assists volunteers in learning and performing food recovery and packing tasks for Mid-Ohio Foodbank (MOF), while providing a high level of customer service. Maintains the inventory and work spaces used for volunteer project purposes. Coordinates product flow throughout volunteer work spaces as well as manages the operations floor for the Volunteer Operations team.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Provides direction for the Volunteer Operations Team with regard to daily workflow and processes.
• Trains volunteers on how to inspect and package products based on various project objectives.
• Assigns project teams to the weekly volunteer project schedule.
• Coordinates and assigns volunteer projects and team assignments based on the Tentative Project Schedule.
• Maintains clean and organized work spaces and assigns weekly clean-up tasks.
• Coordinates break schedules for Volunteer Operations team.
• Develops monthly schedules in conjunction with Manager.
• Checks in with project teams to insure projects are ready for volunteer shifts.
• Responds to changes in volunteer numbers or donation volume by working with his/her team to reevaluate daily action plans.
• Supports volunteers throughout the duration of work shifts by moving product, dismissing for break, answering questions.
• Updates SOPs and follows SOPs, safety policies, and inventory control guidelines to ensure safe and accurate outcomes.
• Ensures consist and appropriate communication with other departments and teams.
• Cross-trains and assists in Volunteer Check-In.
• Unload truckloads of product and supplies as needed.
• Maintains a monthly supply inventory sheet for daily project use.
• Helps create a volunteer-friendly environment.
• Participates in special projects at the request of the Manager.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma/GED required. Food Safety Certification (provided by Mid-Ohio Foodbank).

Experience:  Minimum of one year of experience in a distribution center. Working knowledge of reclamation principles and procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Skills/Competencies:  Good verbal & written communication skills. Good time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Ability to interact and instruct diverse audiences. Excellent customer service skills.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions:  Warehouse environment. Safety sensitive position due to regular interaction with heavy machinery. Must be able to: perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift 30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally). Daily walking, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling (300 lbs with use of manual pallet jack.) Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching. Must work in constantly changing climate temperatures, humid and noisy conditions. Some night and weekend work required.
