TITLE: Volunteern Operations Manager 
REPORTS TO: Director, Operations
DIRECT REPORTS: Volunteer Operations Coordinator, Volunteer Operation Lead, Volunteer Operations Specialists (4)
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

SUMMARY
:  Oversees volunteer projects within warehouse operations by supporting the posting and scheduling of on-line work shifts; providing excellent customer service to our volunteer work force; managing volunteer operations projects and participating in continuous improvement.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Oversees the utilization of volunteer labor to process food and other products for distribution to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank (MOF) partner network.
  • Oversees the posting and scheduling of volunteer operations project shifts, and the volunteer communication required to facilitate those shifts.
  • Manages the Volunteer Operations staff, including performance management, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and corrective actions.
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings with all Volunteer Operations staff.
  • Directs concurrent processing and record keeping for volunteer labor projects.
  • Creates, and ensures adherence to, volunteer training and production standard operating procedures for volunteer projects.
  • Partners with Safety Manager to identify and remedy safety concerns, and champion safety policies and procedures.
  • Partners with Inventory Control to provide necessary information regarding inventory reconciliation, receipting, and scrap invoicing.
  • Forecasts appropriate labor levels in order to set volunteer project and staffing schedules that support adequate business needs.
  • Partners with Volunteer Services to identify and develop new volunteer positions.
  • Informs and supports volunteer engagement and retention strategies.
  • Helps create a volunteer-friendly environment throughout warehouse operations.
  • Supports and participates in the cross-training of all operations team members.
  • Oversees project supply ordering and budget.
  • Participates in special projects at the request of the Director of Operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education: Four year degree in related field or equivalent education and relevant experience required.Food Safety Certification (provided by Mid-Ohio Foodbank)

Experience:  Previous experience in managing a team of associates in distribution/warehouse environment is required. Previous experience managing food inventories and customer service experience strongly preferred. Previous experience operating of forklifts (electric and propane) and hand jacks (electric 4/8 foot) is strongly preferred. Project design and management experience preferred.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software required. Working knowledge of warehouse operations and understanding of inventory principles.

Skills/Competencies:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret large amounts of data, and summarize into presentable information.  Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external clients and volunteers.

 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions:  Warehouse environment.  Safety sensitive position due to regular interaction with heavy machinery. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift  30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally).  Daily walking, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling (300 lbs. with use of manual pallet jack). Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching.  Must work in constantly changing climate temperatures (may work in sub-freezing temperatures occasionally). Some night and weekend work required.
