Volunteer Services Specialist

JOB TITLE: VOLUNTEER SERVICES SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: VOLUNTEER SERVICES DIRECTOR

STATUS: FULL TIME, NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT REPORTS: NONE


SUMMARY: Supports Volunteerism efforts across the organization by providing assistance for MOFC staff working with volunteers. Engages with volunteers by providing excellent customer service to current and potential MOFC volunteers through multiple communication streams. Serves as primary back-up to the receptionist, and in this role is the first point of contact for visitors to Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), directing to appropriate personnel or area of the facility. Directs calls through the main switchboard. Scheduled to work during receptionist's planned absences, breaks, internal meetings, and on-call for unplanned absences.


PRIMARY DUTIES: Volunteer Services

  • Communicates with current and potential volunteers through email, phone, face-to-face visits, etc. Provides assistance with registration, scheduling and on-line accounts.
  • Works in VHub site by posting shifts, updating messaging, and managing data transfer.
  • Participates in volunteer orientations and conducts tours of the facility.
  • Supports the coordination of volunteer appreciation and recognition activities.
  • Participates in volunteer recruitment events.
  • Participates in special projects at the request of the Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY DUTIES: Reception

  • Serves as primary back-up to the receptionist.
  • Greets and directs walk-in and telephone visitors to appropriate MOFC areas or meeting rooms. Refers callers to local food partners as needed.
  • Accepts carrier deliveries and communicates with recipients. Serves as backup for sorting and delivering MOFC mail
  • Accepts payments, and donations via receipt, cash, credit, and check.
  • Conducts tours as needed.
  • Provides meeting space support.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Brings to the position skills of collaboration, who is a self-starter with an extraordinary customer service attitude. Leadership attributes include COLLABORATION; SELF STARTER; CUSTOMER SERVICE MINDSET; INNOVATIVE in bringing new ideas and creativity to volunteer recruitment and retention.

Education and Certifications: High School Diploma required


Experience: Experience in interacting with the public. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.


Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use a multi-line phone system. Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
